Customer Service was very informative when I inquired about multiple things. I had used this product for a month now, and is very effective. Just about 2 days ago, I had this huge piece of dead skin peeling off my chin (it was not pretty haha) which is proof that the peel had done its job. I had a moderate case of acne on my face. I strongly recommend you follow the instructions for the most effective treatment.
Here is my way of applying the peel ->
You'll need a lotion, sunscreen, and a cleanser. I bought the following products in a Rite-Aid (much more expensive than Amazon, fyi)
Neutrogena Deep Cleanser (Cleanser) - http://www.amazon.com/Neutrogena-Clean-Facial-Cleanser-Normal/dp/B000052ZB4
Neutrogena Ultra Gentle Soothing Lotion (Moisturizer and Sunscreen) - http://www.amazon.com/Neutrogena-Ultra-Gentle-Soothing-Lotion/dp/B0054MSBZA
(NOTE: Your face moisturizer should be non-comedogenic and oil-free. It doesn't say in the product description above, but since I bought it at Rite-Aid I could read the packaging and can confirm that it is both non-comedogenic and oil-free.)
(I recommend doing this right before a shower)
1. Wash your face with a non-AHA/BHA cleanser twice as your first step, and wash off with warm water.
1. 'Clean' your face with Isopropyl alcohol on a cotton ball. Be VERY careful as to how much you put on the cotton ball. Do NOT by any means simple douse it in alcohol and practically smother it all over your face. It WILL burn your eyes, and it WILL cause you to cough violently from the fumes if you don't do it carefully (I had learned this myself...firsthand, unfortunately). I do this myself in front of a fan to prevent myself from inhaling too much of the fumes. I clean my face twice.
2. Get ready for a shower. You'll need to wash off the chemical peel from your face. I have no idea how some people don't have problems washing the peel off their face. Maybe they put their face in the sink and try to wash it off that way, but it didn't work for me. It got my clothes wet and it wasn't strong enough. So...I went half-naked and took off my shirt after the alcohol step. It's much easier to get in the shower after a peel and wash it off that way (with cool water). Don't forget to take off your pants/shorts and underwear right before you get in, haha.
3. As for the actual application of the peel, putting too much in one spot on a cotton ball is not recommended, as you'll waste it all on one spot. you should spread it out as much as you can so that it can be used on your entire face. I do it from top-to-down (as the instructions suggest), but by the time I reach my chin there's little to no more of the chemical peel left on the cotton ball, so I have to put another few drops and quickly apply it to my chin.
4. I left the peel on for about 25 seconds the first time. The second time maybe 40 seconds. The third maybe 45 seconds. And the fourth 60 seconds. After the burning sensation starts, I immediately start up the water and get ready for the shower. I don't wait for any 'frosting' to occur since I'm a 'better safe than sorry' person. I also apply it twice on my nose, cheeks, chin and t-area for another 30-60 seconds. They're my problematic/oily areas as I have combination skin that need to be done twice.
5. Soak your face in cool water for maybe a minute or two while standing in the shower to thoroughly remove the peel. Afterwards, you can shower normally if you want (I mean, why not?). Do NOT rub/wash your face with a cloth. Your skin will be very sensitive. You should instead just pat your face or eyes dry when needed, no rubbing.
6. After you finish your shower, you're done! If you're like me and you used to use a cloth to wash your face, you have to stop and use the cleanser instead. I use it twice in the morning, and twice at night before bed for 6 days after the peel. Be sure to moisturize your face after the cleanser because it will be very dry and the skin won't be able to heal effectively if it's not moisturized.
7. You may or may not have noticeable peeling depending o if you followed the steps I stated above correctly, and how much/long you applied it on for. If you do have noticeable peeling, I strongly recommend you not to pick the flakes/dead skin off, no matter how big they are. They are still attached to your skin, and it will come off in time when new skin has fully developed under the dead skin.
8. Do NOT pick, rub, or irritate your face with your fingers/hand. Your hands are very dirty and it will clog your pores. I had done this mistake on my third peel, and I can say that my acne had started coming out again. Whatever urge you may have, even a small scratch on your nose, resist it. It will help you in the long run. This is a habit that you should get used to, as it is probably one of the most effective things at the growth/spread of acne.
9. Exactly a week after the initial peel, repeat steps 1-6. When applying the peel again, let the sensation of pain be your guidance as to when you should start washing it off. As I said, I recommend starting up the water and shower immediately after the intolerable burning starts. Better safe than sorry.
CONCLUSION:
I can say that my face's complexion had improved, and that redness had indeed reduced drastically back to a 'normal' color. Acne isn't as fierce as it was initially (as long as I keep my hands off my face) My t-area (above the nose, between my eyes) had drastically improved. But don't expect a chemical peel to be your miracle worker. Chemical peels will probably lessen your less-desirable features such as acne by maybe 50-90%. There can be a chance of it peeling off your entire face and giving you shiny new baby cheeks, but I highly doubt such things, even for a deep chemical peel haha. (And for the record, I think this specific peel would be classified as a medium chemical peel, not a deep one)
